Cheltenham Art

43rd Cheltenham Art in the Park

Following a difficult year in 2011, Art in the Park (or 'Art in Tie Park' as the above image appears to name us!) got back into its stride in 2012.  We didn't have to contend with the pavements in the Promenade all being dug up, with the issues that then arose from reduced access to the Imperial Gardens and the drop in our visibility.

Perhaps, then it was not surprising that the sales of paintings improved, providing the Exhibition a better security of tenure going forward.

Even so, the first three weeks of the event were somewhat blighted by poor weather - the worst summer in living memory for rainfall and lack of sunshine.  So, we count ourselves lucky and are thankful to the people of Cheltenham for their continued support of our event.

A welcome outcome of all the 2011 pavement works was the new outdoor seating area at the cafe/bar in the gardens by the time we'd got to the 2012 event. The bar is run by the Town Hall, which is adjacent to the Gardens, and is opened on an ad hoc basis.  It's created a very pleasant environment for visitors to the Exhibition, and seemed very popular when the sun did poke its nose out of the clouds.

We'd like to thank Midwinters Solicitors for once again sponsoring Art in the Park, and also to Regent Arcade for kindly allowing us to make use of a shop window to create a display of paintings to celebrate the exhibition in Cheltenham.

We're also grateful to the artists themselves who were all instrumental in the smooth running of the exhibition.  All help, whether great or small, was very much appreciated!
