Mike Kingston

Cheltenham artist Mike Kingston

Having arrived in Cheltenham in the late Sixties to study architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art and design, Mike has for many years pursued a career as a qualified Architect within a number of local large private practices.

Although he has painted and drawn as a hobby for as long as he can remember, he has in the last seven years worked freelance combining his three main interests, namely architecture, theatre scenic design and watercolour painting.

He enjoys the challenge of working both in fine pen and ink wash, and, on a larger scale murals, three-dimensional sculptures and trompe'oile. He has exhibited throughout Gloucestershire and the surrounding counties for many years, exhibiting his ink and watercolour Cotswold scenes and regency balconies, together with undertaking a number of commissions of buildings in and around the Cheltenham area.

For some years now Mike has specialised in combining his love of the childhood memories of the English seaside, his traditional architectural drawing skills and his sense of humour, to produce a series of paintings and drawings of Beach huts and lighthouses which are currently being exhibited across the country from Chipping Campden to the Norfolk coast.

Mike is exhibiting during Week 4 of the 2008 Cheltenham Open Air Art Exhibition and is a member of its committee.
