Carolyn King
I have a passion for drawing and painting. I studied Art and Design at Goldsmith’s College, London where I trained to be a teacher. I particularly enjoy painting in watercolour. I like the traditional techniques that I learnt in this medium, but over the years I have adapted them to create more contemporary work.
I love to paint outdoors and always carry a sketchbook with me, whether on a walk in the country or wandering around a city. Ideally I like to complete a painting in front of the subject as I always feel that it adds a certain degree of magic and spontaneity to the finished picture.
I now have a studio at home in Cheltenham where I am able to complete paintings from outdoor studies. Many of these techniques and skills were initially learnt from attending classes held by the eminent watercolourist Michael Chaplin, a member of the Royal Watercolour Society but I now enjoy developing my own unique methods of working.
I successfully exhibit and sell my work and enjoy painting commissions. In Spring 2008 I had a solo exhibition of watercolour paintings in the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham and I am an elected member of the Cheltenham Group of Artists. My most recent achievement has been to be booked as the resident watercolour artist on “Boudicca”, a Fred Olsen cruise ship, for a two week cruise to Norway and Spitzbergen in 2009.
Art Art enriches my life beyond measure.
