Art in the Park 2021
The Art in the Park committee are close to agreeing the provision of art stands and weather proof enclosures for an on-going Art in the Park exhibition within the new Plaza in Imperial Gardens.
Due to the uncertainty of how quickly we will be able to put on an exhibition this year, the committee have decided to run Art in the Park later in the year rather than the usual June/July. Because the 2021 exhibition will be later in the year, we will propose a closing time just before sunset, rather than our standard 7.30 pm. (To be advised)
Note for artists:
When the plaza is open to the public
and the final touches are completed, we will meet to examine the supplied
stands and enclosures and if we are satisfied with the provision we will
write to you again probably around the end of May with application forms and
to ask you for your payment. Stand hire payments and our commission
from sales will be used to cover our set up costs and exhibition expenses as
per usual and by the time that we write to you again, we will know what the
hire charge will be.
Our plan:
To have 30 metres of stands that will provide us with 15 x two metre stands that can either be booked as a full screen or can be divided into half screens for those that have less paintings to show i.e. you will be able to apply for a 1 metre stand or a 2 metre stand.
The committee have agreed that the 2021 exhibition will last approximately 3 weeks and will run from 18 September 2021 to Sunday 10 October 2021
Week 1 will run for 8 days starting Sunday 18th September and ending Saturday 25th September.
Week 2 will run for 7 days starting Sunday 26th September and ending Saturday 2nd October
Week 3 will run for 8 days starting Sunday 3rd October and ending Sunday 10th October.
Please contact Jo Hurlston by email if you would like to exhibit with us in 2021.
If you have any enquiries about the event, please contact Jo Hurlston, who is the Committee member in charge of screen allocations:

Applications will be considered from any local artist or group (approximately 20 miles radius around Cheltenham) to hire a screen for one week. The screens are approximately 6 feet high. It is suggested that new exhibitors apply for a half screen. The hire charge will be from £32 per screen (6' across) and from £16 per half screen (3' across) per week. In addition, a commission of 10% will be levied on each picture sold.
Pictures should be priced in multiples of £5, e.g. £35, £40, £45 etc, a with a minimum price of £35.
There will be stewards on duty to deal with sales and queries. Exhibitors must be prepared to undertake between up to 3 stewarding duties during the week they are exhibiting. The exhibition runs daily between 10am and 7.30pm (finishing half an hour earlier than previous years). Please see the list of regulations supplied below.
Regulations for Artists
EXHIBITION REGULATIONS AND GUIDANCE NOTES
ENTRIES All artwork must be the artists own original work.
No copies of works by other artists are allowed in your name except in the case of old masters when suitable attribution is made on the exhibition tag and at the back of the painting.
Copies from photographs or publications not being your own infringe copyright laws and are not allowed.
No photocopies, lithographs or computer generated images
Limited edition prints created through lino-cuts, woodblock or similar traditional methods are allowed if each edition is numbered. Only one of each print can be shown at a time.
FRAMING AND HANGING All entries must be suitably framed and fitted with eyelets or 'D' rings appropriate to the weight of a picture and wire or cord attached at the back ready for hanging.
Glazed frames must be sealed properly for protection.
Clip frames are not acceptable.
Unframed canvasses are permitted providing all staples are on the back.
SCREENS Screens are approximately 6 feet wide by 6 feet high. A half-screen is 3 feet wide by 6 feet high.
Artists must provide their own S shaped hooks to hang works on to the fencing screens.
For security reasons, it is recommended that more hooks and additional pieces of garden wire are used to hang heavy paintings.
Neither the organising Committee nor the Cheltenham Borough Council can be held responsible in the event of damage, loss or theft and artists should arrange their own insurance if thought necessary.
LABELLING All works must be labelled with the exhibition picture tags provided.
Artists must clearly write their name, title of the work, medium, screen number and a price on the label.
These details should also be clearly written on to the reverse of all paintings.
PRICING AND SALES COMMISSION For ease of administration, your picture prices must be in multiples of £5 and not less than £35 each.
A 10% commission levy is taken on each sale and the artist or their representative is responsible for paying the levy to the duty committee member before the sale money is handed over at the end of the day.
HANGING AND DISPLAY Exhibitors are responsible for hanging all their work by 10am each morning and removing them each evening at 7.30pm.
Failure to comply with these times may result in the screen being re-allocated.
Exhibitors are responsible for filling their screens adequately and for a balanced looking exhibit. Paintings must not touch each other.
No advertising material is allowed on the screens however a profile of the artist is permitted on the reverse of a painting.
In the case of adverse weather, a limited exhibition may be mounted but you must turn up to hear the decision as to whether to hang your paintings. This is at the discretion of each day's 'Duty Committee Member'.
STEWARDS As an exhibitor, you are expected to steward. This is a condition of the exhibition.
Decisions by committee members are final on all matters related to stewarding and the allocation of screen space.
Stewards and committee members also reserve the right to remove works considered unsuitable including those pictures not meeting the stipulated standards in these guidance notes.
CANCELLATIONS If you have to cancel your screen less than 14 days before you are due to exhibit, your screen fees will not be refunded.
Return of your signed Art in the Park Application Form will be taken as acceptance of these regulations
